Computer is the thing on which present world is based upon. Urban people utilize and want to increase the utilization of the computer, rural people want to see, touch and know more about the computer. Everyone wants to read, know and explore more about the computer and its utilities.
Initially, the computers were very big, expensive, space consuming and non portable. They contained huge storage units having about 18000 vacuum tubes. Then the size of the computer went on decreasing and we get handier and cheaper PCs, laptops and palmtops than we used to in the past.
As we know, people always shift their interests towards the recent developments and newer technologies, people of new generation are very much curious and enthusiastic towards the mobile phones. Although the developments of the mobile phones began from 1946, it has now been introduced to almost every part of the world. The initial objective of the mobile phone was just to receive and make calls and be available to the known ones for 24 hours. However, these days mobile phone is something more than just making or receiving calls.
As the world is becoming smaller due to technological advancement in the IT sector, the companies of the developed countries have now become successful to embed the computers itself to smaller devices such as the mobile phones. Since mobile phone is the most essential commodities in the present world, embedding computers to the mobile phones has been more fruitful.
A mobile phone has substantially all of the computing capabilities desired by a large fraction of the public. Now people do not want to go to the trouble of installing and maintaining a personal computer. We use mobile phones to talk and send SMA but also to play games and create audio video files, make spreadsheets, surf on the net, send emails and chat as well. Talking about the recent developments in the world, Toshiba Company of Japan has created a mobile phone having 4GB capacity 0.85-inch hard disk drive.
It is now possible to edit video clips on our own mobile phone and make a splashy presentation enriched by special visual effects and titles, all without having to learn complex software or editing techniques.
To send mails and surf on the net, the mobile phones and the mobile companies generally use the GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) based GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) technology. GPRS offers faster data transmission via a GSM network within a range 9.6Kbits to 115Kbits. In case of Nepal, Nepal Telecom has not introduced this technology and the subscribers of NTC mobile are yet deprived of utilizing this latest technology. However, Spice Nepal has provided GPRS technology and the users of "Mero Mobile"can now surf on the net if they have the privilege in their mobile set.
We can also use the word processing, spreadsheet software on the mobile. It really saves the time when we are busy preparing the reports or making any spreadsheet table or chart.
We can perform digital photo organization, editing, printing, uploading to printing services, and publishing to the Web. For all these jobs, if we do not have a mobile phone, we have to have a digital camera to take the photo snaps and then a computer to perform the processing tasks. But with a mobile phone having a camera, we can take photos and do all the processing within some minutes.
There's no denying that mobile phones are getting more powerful. As handsets grow more powerful, and as they converge with other devices or functions, users rely on them more and more, just as they have traditionally relied on PCs to perform many computing needs. Users as well as carriers and developers are now treating mobile phones more and more as mobile computers . Handsets have been evolving incrementally to reflect this evolution, now the chips that power them are reflecting this change as well.
As the phone is evolving from just a communication tool to a mobile computer, application developers are working hard to improve them. These applications do not try to cram a PC interface or functionality into a handset; rather they make the most of the phone's abilities to reach similar goals as PC-based applications. The ability of new handsets is to handle all sorts of functions and applications done by the computers.
As all the things have the advantages and disadvantages, this high tech mobile set has also some of the disadvantages. Because it is very small, the criminals can misuse it by using for the criminal activities.
However, if we use these mobile computers in the right way, there are many advantages.
